Cross stitch supply planner
Estimate your fabric size, skein cost, and floss-and-finishing subtotal before you stitch
Build a quick plan for fabric size requirements, floss budget, and finishing extras. This estimator is tuned for real-world stitching math, including a safety margin for frogging, tails, and the thread you always lose between starts and stops. Fabric cost is not included in the subtotal.
Fabric size needed
16" × 19"
Includes your chosen border margin on every side.
Floss estimate
15 skeins
Based on 18 colors at $0.65 each.
Floss-and-finishing subtotal
$11.50
Includes your floss buffer and any finishing extras. Fabric cost is not included.
1. Fabric settings
Set your stitch field and cloth plan
Use the finished stitch count of your pattern, then choose the fabric count and whether you are stitching linen or evenweave over two threads.
2. Material costs
Estimate thread spend with a realistic waste factor
Add your color count and average skein price, then leave room for frogging, tails, and the thread that disappears during cleanup.
Add a buffer for frogging, tails, and waste. Most stitchers land around 15% to 20%.
3. Finishing options
Pad in the extras that usually surprise the budget
Keep this light if you already own the basics, or tick the boxes that matter if this piece needs fresh supplies or a polished finish.

How to use the StitchLark Project Estimator
Start with the finished stitch count of your chart, not the pixel size of the source image. The estimator uses that stitch width and stitch height to calculate fabric size requirements, then adds your border margin so you can buy cloth with enough room for hooping, mounting, or framing.
Next, choose the fabric count that matches how you plan to stitch. If you work on linen or evenweave over two threads, turn on the over-two toggle so the fabric size math reflects the true stitched scale. That makes the planning math more useful when you are comparing 14-count Aida against 28-count or 32-count fabric.
The floss section combines stitch volume, number of floss colors, and your price per skein to build a quick skein cost estimate. The safety margin slider then pads the thread budget for frogging, tails, and the extra waste that shows up in real projects. Use the finishing checkboxes when you also need to budget for a new hoop, fresh needles, or professional framing.
